Find Fannin County Civil Dockets

Start your Fannin County civil court docket search by picking the right office, since the dispute itself decides where the record lives. A divorce or a larger civil suit sits with the district clerk, probate and county civil work sits with the county clerk, and smaller matters go to a justice of the peace precinct. The docket itself lists the filings, motions, settings, orders, and outcomes, but a petition or judgment may still need a separate clerk request for an official copy. Access is limited for family, juvenile, and guardianship cases. So the clerk over the case is always the best place to confirm what you can see.

Fannin Civil Case Routing

That clerk split trips up a lot of searches. The District Clerk holds divorce, custody, district suits, juvenile matters, and child-protection cases. The County Clerk lists a different set. It covers probate, guardianship, mental commitment, justice-court appeals, condemnations, and other county civil matters. Family law does not appear in that county civil description. So do not expect it there.

A case can be fully public and still missing from the wrong clerk's system. Know the pleading type and the court before you decide a search came up empty.

What a Civil Docket Shows

Think of a Fannin County civil docket as a timeline in order. Entries can cover the original petition, citation, return of service, answer, motions, notices, settings, hearings, orders, judgment, nonsuit, dismissal, post-judgment motion, and appeal. The portal does not publish its event-code legend, so treat these as general categories rather than official local codes.

Cause numberThe court identifier; no local format was verified.
StyleThe case caption or party relationship.
FilingsPetitions, answers, motions, and notices entered by date.

JudgmentThe result event, distinct from the signed document.

Fannin Docket Versus Case File

A docket entry tells you what happened and when. The documents behind it hold the actual words. Those words come from a petition, order, decree, return, or judgment. A certified copy is a separate product the clerk issues when the use requires certification. Printing a portal screen gets you none of that.

The county warns that many records sit in off-site storage and need physical retrieval. When an event shows no image, try re:SearchTX, then call the clerk. The District Clerk lets users receive alerts and view documents in their own case. That access comes once an account email matches the clerk record. Access to other public documents varies.

Note: An empty image link does not erase the docket event. It also does not prove no document was filed.

Types of Civil Cases on the Docket

Civil dockets in Fannin County are spread across courts, not one. District court carries general civil and family cases. The county side covers probate and guardianship. Justice courts keep the smaller local civil matters. Whoever keeps the docket depends on the type of case.

  • District civil suits and related motions
  • Divorce, custody, and other family matters
  • Probate, guardianship, and mental commitments
  • Condemnations and justice-court appeals
  • JP evictions, small claims, and repair-and-remedy cases

Do not hunt an eviction or small claim only in the district system. Fannin County runs three JP precinct offices, in Bonham, Leonard, and Windom. The county posts precinct boundaries. It also posts forms for eviction, small claims, repair and remedy, answers, and inability to pay. There is no countywide public JP docket form.

Call the right office. Precinct 1 is 903-583-7489, Precinct 2 is 903-587-2846, and Precinct 3 is 903-378-0015. Have the party names, precinct, case number if known, and the record you want ready. Ask about inspection, copies, and the current setting. A payment page is no stand-in for a civil docket or calendar.

The official JP page lays out all three precinct routes.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

A notice of setting or a dated event puts a Fannin County civil matter on the calendar. A continuance postpones it; a reset moves it. Neither one decides the claim. Look at both the case chronology and Odyssey's separate Court Calendar location, then confirm the date with the court that owns the case.

For district matters, the 336th coordinator is at 903-583-2863 and btodd@fanninco.net. The District Clerk keeps the record itself at 903-583-7459 and dcrecords@fanninco.net. Confirm county and JP settings with those offices. The full sequence of channels is in the Fannin County court calendar.

Fannin Civil Filing Activity

The FY2024 OCA district summary offers big-picture numbers, not case details. Fannin County district civil matters went from 327 pending to 397, with 392 added and 291 disposed. Family matters fell from 109 pending to 79, with 162 added and 177 disposed.

392civil matters added
291civil matters disposed
397civil pending at year end

Fannin County's fiscal year for these figures runs September through August. The counts track activity, not people. One resident with several filings can appear more than once. A jump in pending cases, likewise, tells you nothing about how long any one suit has sat. Nor does it say how the suit ended.

Juvenile matters sit in their own section of the report. It opened the year with 25 pending, added three, and disposed of three. It closed with none pending. Keep those numbers apart from the public family docket. They describe aggregate workflow only, never a way to spot protected cases. No party names, captions, event codes, or document images appear anywhere in it. Nor do the reasons for a disposition.

Civil and family trends pulled in opposite directions during the year. Civil additions outpaced dispositions, while family dispositions outpaced additions. That contrast is why one flat "caseload" number can mislead. Added, disposed, reactivated, inactive, and pending are distinct columns with distinct meanings. For a single lawsuit's sequence, one source will do. Only the individual Fannin County civil docket shows it.

Fannin Certified Civil Copies

A docket result is not a certified case document. For district records, gather the cause number, court, document title, and event date first. Then decide whether you need a plain, electronic, or certified copy. Fees come straight from the District Clerk's current schedule. Expect a $5 search. A paper or conversion copy runs $1. Electronic copies run $0.10 per page, with a $1 minimum. A $5 certification line rounds it out.

County Clerk rates run differently. Its 2025 schedule sets noncertified copies at $1 per page. A $5 certification fee applies per document. Electronic documents cost $1 through ten pages, then $0.10 per page beyond ten. Confirm which office holds the filing and the current total before you pay. Reach the District Clerk at dcrecords@fanninco.net or 903-583-7459; call the County Clerk at 903-583-7486.

Name the specific filing in your request when you can. A petition, order, decree, judgment, or return of service gives the clerk an exact target. Ask whether the file is stored off site, and ask whether redaction affects delivery. Fannin County makes no promise about turnaround time. A complete request still pays off. It spares the clerk from pausing to sort out the court, the file, and the copy level. Your civil docket copies can then move.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Even public Fannin County civil dockets can leave out protected data and sealed material. Family, juvenile, child-protection, guardianship, mental-commitment, and birth-related records call for extra care. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 21c requires sensitive-data handling, and Rule 76a governs civil sealing through a court-order process.

Key Rules:

Texas Rule 21c addresses sensitive data in civil filings.

Texas Rule 76a provides the civil sealing framework.

Texas court records policy distinguishes case files from agency open-records requests.

The Texas Public Information Act does not substitute for the clerk's case-record process. Rule 12 covers judicial records that sit outside ordinary case files. Ask the responsible clerk whether a public redacted version or a certified copy can be supplied.
